Top 5 Wednesday: Hyped 2019 Releases You Don’t Care About

It’s time to get shady! This week’s topic is about the releases everyone is talking about, the books for which the hype IS REAL…that I just don’t care about. o.o

Yikes, right? This has the potential to be slightly ugly. There are going to be books that someone out there is actually excited for. I, on the other hand, just don’t get it? Maybe I tried the series and didn’t like it, maybe I fell out of love with the series over time. Whatever the reason, I’ll try and explain underneath each entry what my reason is for the inclusion on this list.

Please understand in advance that just because I don’t like or look forward to a book doesn’t mean that I think you or anyone that does look forward to it shouldn’t enjoy it just as much as they want to. 🙂

The World of Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

There were some good quotes in Throne of Glass, but overall I was kind of bored by the first book in the series. It took a few false starts to get through it and I’ve hit a snag because I was spoiled re: a significant death in book two that has me furious, not to mention a lot of controversy regarding rep throughout the series. What with that and samples I’ve read of Maas’s writing in other instances, I just do not care at all about this book.

Again, But Better by Christine Riccio

I’ve never been a fan of Christine’s BookTube videos so I wasn’t likely to want to pick up a book by her in the first place, but aside from that, the synopsis sounds kind of bland. There’s no real hook that engages me with Shane, the main character, and the plot doesn’t really stand out as something interesting. The hype that I’ve seen doesn’t really make sense to me, but eh, whatev. ^^;

King of Fools (The Shadow Game #2) by Amanda Foody

Book one was a trial for me. Enne was not a pleasant perspective to read in Ace of Shades. The pacing was such a drag that I was bored to tears. I didn’t feel like the character motivations or growth made sense, so by the end I knew that I wasn’t going to read further in the series. I know there is a lot of hype for the next book, King of Fools, though, so for everyone else’s sake I hope the problems I thought existed in book one get ironed out for the next reading experience.

Song of the Dead (Reign of the Fallen #2) by Sarah Glenn Marsh

I was extremely underwhelmed by Reign of the Fallen, so I have no interest whatsoever in Song of the Dead, despite the interest that others may be exhibiting for it. I don’t think I liked anyone in the book and the worldbuilding didn’t make sense, so SotD gets a nope from me.

Famous in a Small Town by Emma Mills

This is the least reasoned one of the list. I don’t have strong feelings about this one, so I suppose you could say I’m pretty ambivalent. I just don’t quite get the appeal of Emma Mills, so the hype for her books doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. *shrug* Live and let live, y’all, and enjoy. 🙂

Are there any books whose hype you don’t quite understand? Books that you’re not looking forward to when it feels like the rest of the world is? Let me know what they are in the comment section below.
